A plaque was unveiled on 9th January 2007 in a prominent position on the church boundary wall to commemorate the life of the artist William Powell Frith who lived in Aldfield from 1819 to 1826. The artist was one of the great chroniclers of the Victorian age. Three of his famous 'modern' life panoramas are Life at the Seaside, The Derby Day and the Railway Station. An exhibition of his work was staged at the Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate from 24th march to 15th July 2007. The pictures below are from the unveiling ceremony which was conducted by the Rev'd Robert Sellers, Rector of Fountains and Jane Sellars, Curator of the Mercer Gallery (unrelated - note different spellings!).
The address of the Mercer Art Gallery is Swan Road, Harrogate, HG1 1SA and more information is available on their web site or by e-mailing
